RUBRICS TO ASSESS & GUIDE GROWTH
To Be Used To Assess The Current Stage Of Player & Coach Development
Rubrics outline the road map of development – the Learning Progressions. Within schools, rubrics are used to describe the current level of our child’s development inside of a subject area. These curricular rubrics often describe where our children have come from and also the next stage of competency to be achieved. The descriptions we receive from teachers help us understand the developmental process. As coaches/teachers, we can use these rubrics so we can understand the steps of player development.
These EPIC Rubrics will ask you as a coach to observe a player closely and identify the appropriate level of that player’s development. Once the current level is established, you are able to help the player move toward the next level of the Rubric. All players are different and will show various levels of competency within each of the references.
The rubric is a snapshot of where a player is at currently. All players started without a soccer playing reference, the more time they spend playing and receiving instruction from coaches, they develop more and more references. The rubric shows the path of learning possibilities.
Likewise, as you look at the rubric through the eyes of a coach/teacher, you will also identify YOUR current understanding of each reference/competency. These rubrics can also guide your exploration and development as a coach.
