Session #22: Warm Up – Individual, Opening Up and Passing Techniques, Shape (Around to go Through)

Warm Up 1v1 through Gates (8 Minutes)
Area: 15×15 or smaller
• Half of group plays 1v1 with a partner trying to score as many goals as possible within 40 seconds…at 40 seconds call switch and the players who are in sprint off and the next group begins (coach rolls appropriate number of balls into the area).
• Encourage change of direction and change of speed.
Review Juggling/Control (4 Minutes)
• Review Juggling with kick ups then control on the half volley.

Opening Up Around a Triangle (10 Minutes)
Area: 15×15 or smaller
• Communication. Player should ask for the ball to be played to “FEET”, and when they pass they should tell the next player to “OPEN UP”.
1. Pass after player opens up.
2. Have player pass with the top/outside of the foot after rolling ball across the body
3. Have player open up then REVERSE pass into partner (keep hips facing away from triangle after opening up past their target)

4v2 for shape and end player building PLATFORMs (12 Minutes)
Area: 15×12 or smaller
• Flatten Out – Width (Wide)
• Platform – Depth (Back)
• Break the Line/Live in the Triangle – Penetration (Depth Up front or Forward)
Around or Through … How?
How can end player become a Platform (in order to face forward and play forward)?

5v5 w 3 Neutral Players To an End Zone (15 Minutes)
Area: 15×15 or smaller
• Encourage an understanding of SHAPE and having full width and depth.
• Open touch, three touch, two touch, one touch…steady increase the pressure on player Open the CURTAINS by going wide then play THROUGH with the 1-2.

5v5 with goalkeepers (20 Minutes)
Area: 15×15 or smaller
• Focus on Flattening Out (Width), Platforms (Depth), Breaking Lines/Live in Triangle (Penetration) in order to Play Through or Around
• Turns to keep possession
• Opening up to face forward
• Turns if backed into a defender close to goal
Stay consistent with Coaching … allowing the players to play. Focus on one or two coaching points for entire exercise.
