Session #8: Continued Work On Vision & Awareness Using Opposite Movements (Filling Spaces)
pdf of Session #8: U13-U18 Train To Train / Train To Compete Session#8

Everybody is IT
Area: 15×15 or smaller
– All players are inside of a small area and they are all IT.
– When tagged, you go down on one knee.
– While on one knee if you can reach out and tag someone running past you then they are down on one knee and you are back in the game.
– If two players are down on one knee and they are close enough to high five then they are both back in the game.

ABC’s – Triangle Tag
Time: Max 6 minutes.- Groups of four, one person, other three players join hands to form triangle,
– Player tries to tag a designated player within the triangle (cannot go through triangle, must go around),
– The triangle can move and spin around to avoid the player,
– Switch players around so that everyone has a chance to be,
– Progress to player dribbling a ball while players in triangle must hop on one foot.Give everyone a chance to be the tagger twice (30 second periods as the tagger).

Opposite Movement Introduction
Purpose: Vision & Awareness:
Set Up:
– 4-8 players on the outside with balls. Same number on the inside and in pairs (we have put players in the diagram in different colours on the inside but this is not necessary). Execution (younger players can do this with their hands to begin):
– In pairs within the middle, P1 moves towards the ball on the outside (P3) while P2 moves in the ‘opposite’ direction. P1 then plays a pass back to the outside player. They reverse roles. P2 now goes to find a ball on the outside. Progression:
– After P1 plays pass to the outside player, P2 tells them to “Get Out” …. P1 gets out of the space while P2 fills the space (flattening out and receiving pass) and plays back to the outside player.
Considerations:
1. Players do not flatten out for their first movement. They then become unable to see their partner as they flatten out.
2. Players do not challenge one another with opposite movements and simply go to the player next to them to receive the next pass. Encourage them to move across the area.

3v3+1 Opposite Movements
Play a 3v3 +1N Game with end players. MUST BE AN OPPOSITE MOVEMENT BEFORE BALL GOES TO THE OPPOSITE END.
– Encourage players to flatten out on either side then one player (N in this case) tells them to ‘GET OUT’ and the player’s exchange positions, hopefully moving the defender out of the space.
– After flattening out and playing the pass, can you ‘get out’ and let another player fill your space?
– 360 degree support can be discussed further with the three players in the middle FILLING the KEY POSITIONS of ‘Beside, Behind and In Front’.
– May make note that there can be opposite movements from players on the outside. If a player creates PLATFORM like player ‘P’ in the diagram then the outside player can move opposite so they are not on the same line.

Final Game 4v4
Area: 20×20 or smaller
– Open game but encourage keeping possession as an individual…. shielding, turning and facing
– Balance in attack with a player forward and back (PLATFORM)…. if four then a player FLATTENING OUT on either side and one player BREAKING THE LINE.
* Can we ensure there is a player flattening out and at least one player attempting to get in behind the defenders to break a line/live in the triangle.
– Once players are flattening out, and they play back to a central player can you identify a time to perform an OPPOSITE MOVEMENT with one player getting out and the other FILLING THE SPACE.
