Ball Striking - Rubric

Purpose: To assess learning of references that demonstrate learning the execution of Ball Striking.

Use Ball Striking – Rubric

Developing consistent ball striking technique sets a player up to adapt the technique for a variety of situations.

Rubrics use a set of criteria to evaluate a player learning. These rubrics consist of a fixed measurement scale and detailed description of the characteristics for each level of performance. The descriptions focus on the quality of the product or performance and not the quantity.

     Description
Developing  Initial 1. Falls forward in front of the ball and lands on their kicking foot as they point their toe directly down at the ground,
2. Player is not crossing over and ending up where they started. The result is an unbalanced strike. Starting to see their toe being pointed to the side and not down (with inside of the foot brushing the ground),
Emerging 3. Player is inconsistent in their balance during the technique and continue to fall forward onto their kicking foot after ball contact. They must adjust their foot placement (placing foot farther forward), their posture (bringing shoulders back) or their lean to the side (cross over and end up where they started),
4. Player executes the technique in isolation; however, either foot placement is too far back (heel to the centre of the ball) or they are leaning forward over top of the ball,

 Acquired

Competent 5. Player continues to have side spin on the pass although they are completing the appropriate movements in isolation (cross over and end up where they start / planting in front of the ball / shoulders back) throughout the technique,
6. Player can execute the technique well in isolation, consistently hitting targets, in training without opposition. Player has an understanding of when the techniques can be used in training games,

Proficient

7. Player can executes technique in game conditions however is inconsistent in 1. hitting targets and 2. eliminating the side spin,
8. The player executes the technique in game conditions. There is no side spin on the ball (only backspin). The player is able to hit targets with consistency.
