Overlapping Platform

There are a few exceptions, but in general, in order for an Overlap to occur a player with the ball needs to be facing forward and able to play forward (Overlapping Platform).

That overlapping platform with the ball could:

1. Be directly involved in a 2v1,

2. Could be building an advanced platform because the player on the ball is facing their own goal (backward), then as the ball is played to the advanced player they can play a pass to an overlapping player (often called third player run in a wide position).
